2015 brought about a welcome boost to the club following two turbulent seasons on and off the green. Both Saturday teams won their respective league competitions. For the W&W Premier team 16 wins from 22 matches was our best effort since 2005. The Business Houses team found life easy in Division 2 winning all 14 matches and also won the W&W Business Houses Cup. The result will be an improved standard of Saturday bowling in 2016 with the club competing in Premier Division 2 and Business Houses Division 1.
The clubs 66% match win percentage was a 21% improvement on 2014 and by far the best since these statistics were introduced 10 seasons ago. Only 31 players were used. The club effectively had seven non playing members in Darren Barnwell, Matt Barnwell, Steve Barnwell, Paul Jackson, Dave Jenkins, Sheila Newman and Alan Parsons.
An impressive 30 away wins were recorded in 2015 which included the Oldbury team (7), W&W Business Houses (7), W&W Premier (5), Smethwick 'A' (3) and Dudley (3). The Smethwick 'A' team reached the S.F.Jones Cup final for the first time since 2009 but lost out to Dudley Dell by 5 shots. The Smethwick 'B' team missed out on gaining promotion back to Division 2 by just 6 shots after finishing on level points with runners up Green Man 'A'. The Summit team were promoted to Feeder League 'B' after finishing 4th in Division 2 and only 13 points off champions Sutton Park. The standard in which the club will compete in 2016 will see Summit matches classed as an 'A' game going forward for the purpose of these statistics. The Dudley team finished 3rd in Division 5 for the fourth consecutive season. Cup matches were an area of concern with the Free Press Cup, W&W Arthur Mitchell Cup and the Oldbury Cup all being conceded without being able to field a team.
The 'B' games only statistics have been introduced as per a request from players last season. These focus on the W&W Business Houses, Smethwick 'B' and Dudley teams.
Individually it was again Ollie Newman who had the most success winning all three 'A' team averages in the same season for the fifth time. Joe Wilson clocked up the most games (93) for the fourth consecutive season. A number of players passed 600 games for Broomfield: Daniel Chilton (641), Joe Wilson (612), Dave Chilton (602) and John Wilson (601). Players appearing for the first time were Helen Williams, James Dugmore, Luke Fagan and Jim Cafferkey.
The club hosted the W&W Ladies Individual Merit Finals on 6th June with Jan Pratley (George BC) beating Faye Montgomery (Woodbourne Sports BC) in the final. On 28th June we hosted the W&W Mens Individual Merit Finals - the first time they had been held at Portland Road since 1985. Josh Hale of King George V shocked everybody when he beat Ben Harris (KGV) in the final.
29th May 2015 was the five year anniversary of leaving the 'Broomfield' ground at Smethwick Cricket Club. 30th May 2015 marked five years for the club at Portland Road. Of the 31 players who competed this season, 20 remain from that transition.

Team: Jim Watkin, Mark Hadley Snr, Tonia Hadley, Mick Barnwell, Jim Cafferkey, Mick Haydon, Keith Underhill and Frank Newman. These players can add 1 appearance to their overall statistics.
