21/10/11 - You can now view the 2011 statistics by clicking here.
10/10/11 - The Portland Pavilion club will cease trading on 1st January 2012. Over the past week a small group of the Broomfield committee have worked swiftly to establish contact with Persimmon Homes and Birmingham City Council. At present the focus is very much on securing access to the green for next season. A committee meeting takes place tomorrow and any further updates regarding the main club will be sent out via email.
The end of season averages for all teams are now complete and updated to the website. This includes the final W&W games and one correction to the West Bromwich averages. The total end of season stats are not far off completion and i hope to have these online by next weekend.
Renovation of the green takes place on Monday 17th and Tuesday 18th October. Only three volunteers so far, any further help would be appreciated. The green will be scarified two ways and hollotined on the Monday. Help will be needed to remove the hollotine cores. On Tuesday the green will be seeded and top dressed. Help with the top dressing will see this job completed in just over an hour. Please text me for times and further details.

14/09/11 - The Smethwick 'A' season came to an end tonight after a rearranged game against Moor Lane at home. Three winners in the first four but only a lead of 9 shots with some close games. Ollie Newman 21-14 but the other three ends could have gone either way: Steve Blakeman 21-18, Darren Griffiths 21-19 and Andy Calvert 18-21. Two single figure cards in the back four eased the pressure (Chris Price 21-4, John Wilson 21-5) followed by Jonathan Blakeman 21-18. Final result 156-120 (+36, 2pts).
The team lost out on the Division 1 title by a single point. Season highlights included away wins on Cradley Heath Libs, Greets Green, West Brom Labour, Cradley Sports and Boldmere S&S along with narrow losses at Great Barr (-6), Greyhound (-2) and Moor Lane (-11). Ollie Newman won both the club and league averages (33pts / +157). Ollie would also like to thank everybody that has played for him this season.
10/09/11 - It may now be too late but after 8 losses in the last 9 games the W&W Premier team finally recorded a win this afternoon. It was a basement fixture taking on the Greyhound who were one point ahead of us in 10th place.
After four ends Broomfield were 2 shots ahead. Terry Jones continued his end of season form with a 21-11 win against Karen Weaver. Dan Chilton won 21-17 and Cameron Gurdas scored 17. Chris Price came off with 13 against John Freer at number 1 but the score did not do Herman credit in a game where both played out a number of tight ends. Broomfield again appeared vulnerable in the middle four as the Greyhound looked on course for 4 winning cards. They ended up with 3 (Adam Higgins 21-13, Richard Weaver 21-15, Gary Mitchell 21-15) with Andy Calvert showing great resolve to win 21-20 from 8-14. With 8 ends off the green Broomfield were 17 shots adrift. The back four then piled 55 shots on which resulted in our best home aggregate of the season (+38). Wins for Jonathan Blakeman 21-1, Ollie Newman 21-6, Darren Griffiths 21-9 and Marc Wilson 21-13.
The youngest ever first team was fielded on Saturday with an average age of just 32. Eight players under the age of 30 with our President Chris Price older than our youngest three players combined! Cameron Gurdas (15), Dan Chilton (21), Marc Wilson (21), Joe Wilson (23), Andy Calvert (25), Terry Jones (25), Jonathan Blakeman (27), Marc Hadley Jnr (28), Darren Griffiths (39), Ollie Newman (45), Mark Hadley Snr (51) and Chris Price (67). During a time where we are still trying to establish ourselves on a new home green, Club Captain Darren Griffiths has put faith in the younger players this season. Both Saturday teams may be relegated this year but with the mix of experienced players we also have surely the future can be looked at with a positive attitude. The number of players used this season has also increased in comparison to 2009 and 2010. Several players have hinted about playing for us in 2012 but only time will tell if any of these materialise. Our green is in use for the Midland Masters next Sunday and an application is pending for the 2012 All England. It's not all doom and gloom!
10/09/11 - Two winners for the W&W Alliance team who lost by 65 shots away at Moseley CC. Keith Underhill made it four consecutive wins (21-13) and Paul Newman won 21-17 on his return to the side.
09/09/11 - In a re-arranged game the W&W Alliance team lost by 20 shots at the Valley. Six winners for Broomfield: Dave Chilton 21-2, Keith Underhill 21-17, Dave Childs 21-17, Marc Wilson 21-20, Jim Watkin 21-20 and Tonia Hadley who came back from 2-19 to also win 21-20. Thanks to Matt Wilkins who travelled over at late notice to ensure we fielded a full side.
07/09/11 - The Oldbury side followed up last weeks 9 point win (+57 vs Coombswood) with another 9 point win against Gate, Colley Gate. The result sees us finish in 3rd place in Division 1 with no home defeats and three away wins. The 78 shot win tonight was our best result of the season with wins for Ollie Newman 21-1, John Wilson 21-4, Jonathan Blakeman 21-5, Joe Wilson 21-9, Terry Jones 21-11, Chris Price 21-17 and Chris Chilton 21-20. Ollie Newman won the averages with 23pts and an aggregate of +107.
