OCTOBER 2008 NEWS

Items listed below are news items that have appeared on the Home Page but may now be out of date...

26/10/08 - Well done to Malcolm Spencer whose 17 wins from 20 games in the Oldbury Seniors was good enough to win him the Division 1 League Averages.

20/10/08 - Photos from the Presentation are now online, use the "Presentation" link which is in the index on the left hand side of every page. The photos have been spilt into three sections: Arrival , Awards and Other.

Ollie Newman lost in the quarter finals of the M&B Mick Bagnall Trophy this afternoon. A great start for Ollie beating Ant Bracken 31-19. He faced M&B Cheslyn Hay bowler Paul Evans in the last eight and scored 23.

15/10/08 - The Presentation evening is this Friday, 17th October at The Eaton Hotel, Hagley Road, Edgbaston. Times are as follows: 7:00pm meet, 7:30pm sit down for meal, 9:00pm prize presentation, 9:30pm disco, raffle. Bar is open till midnight.

54 people are expected with a further 6 - 8 people arriving for just the presentation or disco.

13/10/08 - Most sections of "Statistics 2008" are now online.

12/10/08 - Congratulations to Ollie Newman who on Saturday qualified for the finals of the M&B Mick Bagnall Trophy (former Deers Leap Open), this included wins over Pete Davenport and Callum Wraight. Ollie has drawn Ant Bracken for finals day next Sunday. 'Brack' won the George Masters on Saturday.

Congratulations also go to John Hardman who has won the West Bromwich Champion of Champions. A knockout played between all average winners, John beat Nigel Freeman in the final 21-20. John is the first Broomfield bowler to win the competition since Darren Griffiths in 1996.

If early reports are true then it seems Broomfield 'A' have won Smethwick Sunday Division 1. Moor Lane 'A' needed to win one of their away matches today but they lost at the Beeches and then West Bromwich Labour.

11/10/08 - Thank you to those of you who came to help with the end of season shutdown this afternoon: Chris Price, Steve Blakeman, Darren Griffiths, Melissa Gurdas, Leigh-Anne Nemedi, Terry Jones, Marc Wilson, Joe Wilson, Dan Chilton, Keith Lawlor, Mark Hadley Snr, Marc Hadley Jnr and Malcolm Spencer.

09/10/08 - A work party is needed this Saturday, 11th October between 1pm and 3pm. The main job will be to move 160 bags of top dressing. 80 bags to go along the start side of the green and 80 along the park side. The green was deeply scarified yesterday (see pictures below), and the waste removed needs to be bagged (about 2 tonnes now in a pile in front of pavilion) ready for Darren to take away. Other jobs will include moving the benches, clearing the ditches of leaves (mainly park side) and a general clean up of the pavilon (fridges) and surrounds. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you to Darren Griffiths, Steve Blakeman, Terry Jones, Dan Chilton, Joe Wilson, Mark Hadley Snr and Marc Wilson who came to help on Wednesday. The job took nearly 7hrs, five of which were spent clearing the green.

The green will be seeded on Friday and a contractor will arrive about 1:30pm Saturday to apply the top dressing. The trees behind the old pavilion which cast a shadow over the one corner of our green will be removed before the end of October. The trees in the park which also cause a problem with the amount of sunlight we get on the green should be dealt with by Sandwell Council before the end of March 2009.
