Langley stamped their authority on the final with the first two cards off giving them a 32 shot lead. Dick Jones beat Karen Newman 21-5 and ‘Monty’ Panesar lost to the same score line against Peter Rose whose association with Broomfield spanned 36 years as a cricketer and bowler between 1970 and 2005.

First winner for the Broomies was Danielle Newman who had started strongly against her opposing captain Kevin Roberts (11-3) and went on to reduce the deficit to 22 with a 21-11 card. James Tudge continued his fine form for the Oldbury ‘B’ and opened up a 7-0 lead over Amy Salt. ‘Mr T’ going on to win 21-13 and make it 13/13 in the league and cup. After four ends the Oldbury ‘B’ massive were 14 shots adrift.

Two former teammates from the Gate Inn, Rood End came up against each other as Frank Newman faced Mario Caserio in a lively encounter.  At 77 ‘Spike’ and his +40 seasons of bowling outnumbered the rest of the Broomfield ‘B’ team combined. Mario put the game back in Langley’s favour (+25) winning 21-10.

With three relatively new players left on the green Broomfield were now playing for pride and had the full support of over half the membership that had turned out on the night. Last season’s captain Paul Hentrich went 5-0 ahead before trailing 7-15 but commanded the second half of his game 14-3 to record a 21-18 victory. Ben Chapman in only his second season faced the experienced Mac Bradley and eased to a 21-12 win – the difference now down to a respectable 13 shots.

Last on the green under floodlights was James Williams playing in only his eighth competitive game having joined the club back in June. His opponent Cameron Gurdas was another former Broomfield player who clocked up 126 games for the club between 2006 and 2012 including several appearances in W&W Premier Division 2. The match turned with James trailing 13-18, the raucous Broomfield crowd in full flow as he went on to record a dream first win running out a 21-18 winner.

Broomfield ended the evening with five winning cards and heads held high. Langley the winners by 10 shots, final scores 135-125.
