20/06/14 - W&W Premier Cup round 2 saw Broomfield travel to Weoley Castle WMC to take on Premier 1 outfit Kings Heath Park. Eight shots behind after the first four with wins for Jonathan Blakeman 21-16 and Terry Jones 21-17. Just one winner in the back four (Mark Hadley Snr 21-17) saw us drop a further 23 shots. Final scores 124-155 (-31).

In the second round of the W&W Alliance Cup Broomfield clinched another 1 shot victory, this time against Tanworth In Arden. The match was played at the Black Horse (Northfield). Four winners for Broomfield: Keith Underhill 21-9, Frank Newman 21-14, John Hardman 21-15 and Denise Killion 21-17. Final scores 140-139 (+1).

19/06/14 - A third away win of the season for the Dudley side moved the team up to second place in Division 5. Facing Wernley 'B' tonight Broomfield had four winners and won the match by four shots: John Hardman 21-4, Mark Hadley Snr 21-9, Keith Underhill 21-11 and 'Monty' Panesar 21-13. Final scores 125-121.

18/06/14 - Six winners for the Oldbury team tonight at Portland Road, beating the George 'A' by 33 shots. Three winners in each four: Chris Price 21-9, Jonathan Blakeman 21-11, Ollie Newman 21-12, Dave Chilton 21-13, Mick Barnwell 21-15 and Darren Griffiths 21-17. The result keeps Broomfield five points clear at the top of Division 1 after Royal Oak 'A' had six winners at home against W.B.F.S.C. and won by 31 shots.

17/06/14 - In the Oldbury & District League Division 1&2 Knockout Cup, Broomfield progressed to the semi finals after a comprehensive win against the George 'B' at Hamstead Social. 15 shots up after the first four with wins for Ollie Newman 21-8, Chris Price 21-14 and Steve Blakeman 21-17. 38 shots were added in the back four with winning cards from Jonathan Blakeman 21-2, Mark Hadley Snr 21-11, Joe Wilson 21-13 and Dave Chilton 21-20. Final scores 159-106 (+53).

The semi finals see the George 'A' face the Bell Inn 'A' and Broomfield take on Mitchells & Butlers 'A'.

16/06/14 - A first visit to Chadsmoor for Broomfield tonight. In the Summit League it was another 61 shot defeat but this time picking up two points with wins for Chris Price 21-17 in the first four and Dan Chilton 21-17 in the back four. The result sees Broomfield drop one place to 8th in Division 2. Next week sees us take on second placed Hadley United Services Club (Shrops) at home who we faced in the first round of last years Free Press Cup.

16/06/14 - Warwick & Worcester Cup venues were finally confirmed today. Matches take place this Friday (20th June) as follows: W&W Premier vs Kings Heath Park at Weoley Castle Working Mens Club. W&W Alliance vs Tanworth In Arden at the Black Horse. The Broomfield green is not in use but Greville Arms face Boldmere St Michaels on M&B in the W&W Premier Cup.

15/06/14 - The Smethwick 'A' side eased to a 38 shot victory at Portland Road this morning. Facing Coombswood 'A' there were wins for Ollie Newman 21-9, Jonathan Blakeman 21-10, Joe Wilson 21-10, Dave Chilton 21-11, Chris Chilton 21-12 and Chris Price 21-16.

The Smethwick 'B' side had three winners at Haden Hill Park but lost their match against Tallboats by 35 shots. Winning cards for Mark Hadley Snr 21-11, Jim Watkin 21-16 and Denise Killion 21-19.

14/06/14 - Four defeats in five for the W&W Premier team who travelled to the new home of the Brookhill today. At Holly Lane Sports & Social Club (formerly Delta Metal Athletic & Social Club) a 60 shot loss with four winners: Chris Chilton 21-11, Mark Hadley Snr 21-15, Terry Jones 21-18 and Keith Underhill 21-20.

The W&W Alliance fielded just six regular players at home against The Maggies. Andy Calvert, Keith Lawlor, Darren Griffiths, Pauline Broadhead, Steve Blakeman and Dave Griffiths all came in to make up the 12. Ten shots up after the first four thanks to Dave Griffiths on his Broomfield debut winning 21-5. Also a win for Darren Griffiths 21-17. A solid four winners in the middle extended the lead to 34 with Steve Blakeman 21-10 playing his first game for Broomfield since 2011, Malcolm Spencer 21-14, Tonia Hadley 21-17 with just one foot and Frank Newman 21-19. The Maggies hit back with cards of 21-0, 21-11 and 21-15 in the back four. Jim Watkin won 21-17 with the final scores 205-204 (+1). Well done to all involved today to get a team out and then record a first win since the opening fixture of the season.

12/06/14 - Seven winners for the Dudley team tonight who beat Pensnett Social 'A' by 69 shots at Portland Road. Wins for Joe Wilson 21-4, Keith Underhill 21-5, John Hardman 21-5, Mark Hadley Snr 21-7, Denise Killion 21-9, Monty Panesar 21-13 and Malcolm Spencer 21-19.

11/06/14 - Broomfield went top of Oldbury Division 1 tonight having picked up a rare away win at the George 'A'. Three winners in the first four opened up a 14 shot lead thanks to Dave Chilton 21-11, Joe Wilson 21-15 and Chris Price on his 70th birthday who recovered from 3-13 to win 21-17. One winner in the back four (Ollie Newman 21-13) and two 18-21 cards was good enough to hold the advantage (+7) and collect seven points. League leaders Royal Oak 'A' suffered a 59 shot defeat with no winners away at W.B.F.S.C.

10/06/14 - Thank you to Dave Southall, Chris Parkes and Cliff Tebbet who today started work on the much neglected surrounds around the Broomfield green. If members could contribute some time towards this it would be most appreciated.

09/06/14 - Finally a positive result to report for the Summit League side. At Portland Road tonight Broomfield dropped just one shot against Chadsmoor 'B'. In the first four wins for Jonathan Blakeman 21-2, Dan Chilton 21-13 and Mick Barnwell 21-19. A full house in the back four with wins for John Wilson 21-4, Terry Jones 21-11, Joe Wilson 21-12 and Mark Hadley Snr 21-15. Final scores 167-97 (+70) and 9 points. The result takes us up to 7th place in Division 2, three points behind Chadsmoor 'B' who we play away from home next Monday.

08/06/14 - In a re-arranged W&W Premier fixture played at the Valley this afternoon, Broomfield lost by 63 shots with just three winning cards. Wins for Terry Jones 21-16, John Wilson 21-19 and Dan Chilton 21-19. The result pushes us back in to the bottom three (10th) with just three wins from eight this season.

08/06/14 - The Smethwick 'A' side slip to 6th place in Division 1 after a narrow defeat away at the new Coombswood green this morning. Broomfield again had four winners but this time missed out by 7 shots. Wins this morning for Ollie Newman 21-9, Dan Chilton 21-12, Jonathan Blakeman 21-14 and Dave Chilton 21-19 who came back from 9-18.

The 'B' team move up to 3rd in Division 2 after a convincing 43 shot home victory against second placed Tallboats. Five winners: Jim Watkin 21-2, Manjeet Panesar 21-6, Terry Jones 21-7, Denise Killion 21-7 and Mark Hadley Snr 21-17.

07/06/14 - The Warwick & Worcester Individual Merit qualifiers went ahead at 15 of the 16 greens selected. Only Kings Norton fell to the weather. Broomfield had two qualifiers in Ollie Newman at Great Barr and Jonathan Blakeman at the Colebrook. Thank you to Joe Wilson who took care of matters down our green. Keith Wallis (Ward End Cons) and Nick Peters (Moseley Cricket Club) were the qualifiers - scores below:

06/06/14 - No Warwick & Worcester fixtures tomorrow as the preliminary round of the WWCBA David Perry Individual Merit takes place. Four Broomfield bowlers are in action with Ollie Newman on Great Barr, Darren Griffiths on Moor Lane, Jonathan Blakeman on the Colebrook and John Wilson on Moseley Cricket Club. Please note all qualifiers start at 2:00pm with two players to qualify from each green.

A total of 16 greens are in use including our own green at Portland Road. Included in the 13 players at Broomfield are Steve Freer (Merit winner in 2006 & 2007) and Ben Harris (winner in 2012).

06/06/14 - In a re-arranged Smethwick 'B' fixture Broomfield took on Cradley Sports tonight and lost out by 30 shots. Four winners away from home for the 'B' team: Jim Watkin 21-14, Terry Jones 21-20, Mark Hadley Snr 21-20 and John Hardman 21-20. The team remain in 4th position in Division 2.

05/06/14 - Scores level at Pensnett Social tonight as the Dudley team picked up six points with the match drawn (140-140). Four winners each with winning cards for Mark Hadley Snr 21-11, Denise Killion 21-13, Keith Underhill 21-14 and John Wilson 21-18. The result moves Broomfield from 5th to 4th in Division 5.

04/06/14 - Tonights Oldbury Division 1 fixture away at Hilly House was rained off at 7:05pm.

03/06/14 - After a suggestion made by Sheila Newman we can now confirm the Frank & Sheila Newman Club pairs will take place on Sunday 29th June starting at 11:30am. This is now a free Sunday as both Smethwick teams have been knocked out of the S.F.Jones Cup and our green is not in use for Round 2. The earlier start for the pairs competition is to try and encourage more entries as this is not a Bank Holiday weekend. However, 16 players would usually be playing on a Sunday morning so we are to trial the 11:30am start.

There are still a few outstanding yearly membership subscriptions to be paid. The cut off was 31/03/2014, therefore please ensure your subs are paid to Joe Wilson, Dave Jenkins or a member of the committee ASAP.
