Results elsewhere went in Broomfields favour as West Bromwich Labour won on the British Oak, Kings Heath Park won on the Richmond by 35 and Kings Norton won on Forget Me Not by 7. New Inns Harborne also lost away at Acocks Green.
The Alliance team played their third home game out of the last four fixtures. After comprehensive wins against M&B (+77) and Great Barr (+91), W.B.F.S. put up a challenge. After four ends Broomfield were only 8 shots up with wins from Tracy Wilkins 21-9 and Andy Calvert 21-16. The middle four dropped 12 shots with just one winning card from John Hardman 21-11. 29/05/08 - Since joining the Dudley League in 2001, Broomfield have only lost one game at home. That was in 2004 to the Green Man, Harborne by 3 shots. Tonight that record was well and truly blown away with the clubs worst performance in the Dudley League.

Better news for the Oldbury 'B' who managed a 3 shot win on Broomfield against Netherton Cons 'B'. Five winning cards: Melissa Gurdas 21-5, Sam Fagan 21-10, Diane Kazmierowski 21-13, Matt Wilkins 21-17 and Danielle Newman 21-18.

After 6 games, the Oldbury Seniors side find themselves 5th in Division 1. Despite a home defeat the team are only 6 points off top spot.

24/05/08 - The W&W Premier team finally registered a win in 2008 with a convincing performance against New Inns Four Oaks at Broomfield. Eleven winners with a victory of 73 shots.
A great start to the day when all four of Broomfields openers signalled "two" for the first ends. That continued with leads of 17-6 from Chris Price and 14-2 from Mark Hadley Snr. Mark Hadley put the first 21 on the board with a 21-4 victory over New Inns' usual number 12, Malcolm Plenderleith. As New Inns battled back Broomfields experience paid dividends with three further winners in Chris Price 21-18, Nigel Francis 21-19 and in a nip and tuck game Malcolm Spencer got the better of Dave Allcock, 21-20. 23 shots up after the first four.
At number five, John Wilson swept aside former county star Alan Powell 21-11. A game in which John put up some great leads in his 11 shot break. Terry Jones had his work cut out at number six against Gary Morton. A tight game involving straight marks and close leads, Gary Morton proved to be the first and only winner for the opposition, 21-11. The lead was extended to 48 shots as the second four ended with single figure wins from Dave Chilton 21-8 and Jonathan Blakeman 21-9.
A highlight in the back four came from Mark Nemedi who at 5-2 down then went on a run of 17 shots to lead Andy Wolverson 19-5. Keith Lawlor struggled in patches up to 12-12 but then got the job done with a 21-13 win. Mark Nemedi also won to the same score. Marc Wilson was in front for most of his game and took the lead to 71 shots with his 21-14 victory. Chris Chilton stayed true to form with another game that passed 30 ends. Four winners out of four at the back with Chris' 21-19 win.
A personal relief to get that win but the spirit has been there for a good while with just one poor effort against West Bromwich Labour. It is no secret that several sides in this division could lose multiple games at home and because of that we must keep going, a season lasts 22 games and doesn't end after a dissapointing start. We also have three consecutive away games in June / July and this will certainly be a test of character.
Thank you to the players who helped to clear the green. At 2:00pm it was covered in leaves and sticks because of the wind coming from the park side. Thank you also to the non players who came to support, marked cards and even fetched the food. Finally thanks to everyone for doing their bit and making an effort to leave our surrounds and pavilion clean and tidy instead of leaving the mess for Frank and Sheila.
