22/04/12 - The wet weather continued this morning along with another close result at Portland Road. Taking on Greets Green 'A' the Smethwick 'A' side were 5 shots behind after the first four. Wins for Chris Price 21-13 and Chris Chilton 21-18. All four winners in the back four turned the game around by 28 shots but it is fair to say it was hard work this morning with showers on and off throughout: John Wilson 21-9, Jonathan Blakeman 21-12, Dave Chilton 21-16 and Ollie Newman 21-19. (Final score 152-129 +23) Three wins from three for the Smethwick 'A', matched by the Beeches 'A' who won away at the Greyhound.
At Woodman Saltwells the Smethwick 'B' had 3 winners and lost by 42 shots: Matt Barnwell 21-6, Denise Killion 21-11 and Terry Jones 21-19.
21/04/12 - The W&W Premier side took on Wythall C.A. away from home for the first time in the 35 seasons Broomfield have been in the Warwick & Worcester. It was a new venue for most with only a couple of players recalling playing the green for a cup fixture. Showers killed off any dangerous pace but the 15 minute practice soon showed what a tricky green Wythall have in drier conditions.
A solid start from the first four dropping only 5 shots and taking a lead of 23 shots. Single figure wins for John Wilson 21-6 who ran out from 13-6 and Jonathan Blakeman 21-8. Good away cards coming from Chris Chilton 20-21 and Dave Chilton 17-21. Three winners in the middle four took the lead to 32 shots. Chris Price and Terry Jones both 21-17 and Mick Barnwell who from 6-10 went on to win 21-13. One winner in the back four (Andy Calvert 21-8) but another strong session from Broomfield with the other three cards all 17-21. The final aggregate +33 which takes the team to the top of Premier 3 with four teams all tied on 5 points (Broomfield, Woodbourne Sports, Bradford Arms, M&B)
The W&W Alliance did well to field a side in a re-arranged fixture away at Great Barr. Two winners for Broomfield in a 90 shot defeat: Mark Hadley Snr 21-5 and Keith Underhill 21-16. Thank you to all the players who played on Saturday, the main achievement was not conceding the game. It is hoped that when the football season is over availability will increase to around 30 players.
21/04/12 - Our green has been selected to host the Warwick & Worcester Junior Merit Finals on Sunday 13th May (10:30am start).
20/04/12 -This was the scene that greeted us at 6:20pm tonight. The photo was taken half way through an eight minute hailstorm which left the green white over in a 1cm thick covering of hail. In the second round of the Dudley Herald Cup the away four started on time against the Royal Oak 'B'.
After a 50 minute wait the green was eventually cleared and the home leg started with all four ends on the green to beat any poor light. Despite the weather the green ran surprisngly well and Broomfield recorded a 54 shot home win with all four winning cards: Ollie Newman 21-5, Jonathan Blakeman 21-6, Mick Barnwell 21-8 and John Wilson 21-11. Thank you to Joe Wilson and Dan Chilton who took care of the card marking and measuring.
Three winners for Broomfield at the Royal Oak adding a further 20 shots to the aggregate. Keith Lawlor 21-8 and Dave Chilton 21-16 the first two ends off followed by Chris Chilton 21-9. Final scores (home + away) = 158 - 84 (+74). Broomfield will play The George 'A' in the quarter finals of the Dudley Herald Cup on Friday 25th May.
19/04/12 - Pleased to report another win for Broomfield tonight, and not in the easiest of conditions. The rain this week had left the green uncut since last Sunday but the players simply got on with the game and it was the best of starts with the first four all winning cards. Playing Cradley Sports there were single figure wins for John Hardman 21-3 and Denise Killion 21-7. Carl Blakeman made it three wins on the spin 21-14. Special mention to Danielle Newman who trailed 3-11 being stretched in the big heavy corners but stuck at it and came back to win 21-19. 41 shots ahead after the first four but the lead was required with the next three games all losses with scores of 10, 4 and 9. That left Cameron Gurdas on the green 16-8 up with Broomfield 1 shot up on the board. Credit to Cameron (21-12) who like others over the past couple of weeks had to play out his game in poor light. Final scores 128-118 (7pts) +10. Next week five of the Dudley team will experience the Cradley Sports ("Libs") green for the first time.
18/04/12 - The positive start to the 2012 season continued tonight with an away win for the Oldbury side against Netherton Cons 'A'. After the first three ends Broomfield were 24 shots up with wins for Dan Chilton 21-5, Chris Price 21-16 and Jonathan Blakeman 21-18. The lead was cut to 6 shots after the second three ends with Netherton putting in cards of 21-11, 21-14 and 21-20. With the final two on the green the game was all to play for and Dave Chilton and Joe Wilson did not disappoint, both with winning cards of 21-15. Eight points collected from the 18 shot victory. Final scores 150-132 (5 winners).
16/04/12 - Another game at Portland Road and another game played in the cold and also in the dark for the back four. Tonight's match was a re-arranged fixture for the West Bromwich side against The Stile 'A'. Not the best of starts for those that did get the light, two shots down after four ends with winning cards for Keith Underhill 21-15 and Matt Barnwell 21-17. Marc Hadley Jnr swung the game in Broomfield's favour with a 21-4 win that reversed his score from the away fixture. Broomfield then dropped another 8 shots to find themselves 7 shots up with two games on in failing light. Two Oldbury players finished the job off, Darren Griffiths 21-16 filling in for the absent John Hardman and John Wilson 21-17 who completed his game in near darkness. Final scores 148-132 and 7 points.
15/04/12 - Both Sunday teams maintain a 100% win record for the season after Jim Watkin's Smethwick 'B' team won away on the Wernley by 9 shots this morning. Four winners: Matt Barnwell 21-4 (from 1-3), Joe Wilson 21-12 (from 10-12) and 21-20's for Terry Jones and Jim Watkin.
14/04/12 - The Warwick & Worcester season started today with only the Premier side in action. At Portland Road the opponents were Wythall and after the first four ends it certainly showed that one team had been relegated from Premier 2 and the visitors should have been relegated to Premier 4. 47 shots up after four with wins for Chris Price 21-6, John Wilson 21-8, Jonathan Blakeman 21-11 and Dan Chilton 21-12. Another full house in the middle four with the lead extended to 83 shots: Terry Jones 21-5, Paul Newman 21-12, Dave Chilton 21-15 and Joe Wilson 21-16. The back four added a further 32 shots with winning cards for Andy Calvert 21-5, Chris Chilton 21-9 and Ollie Newman 21-12. The final aggregate +115.
A small piece of history in that this was the W&W Premier teams first 100 plus victory at Portland Road. The last ton plus win coming in September 2009 when Broomfield celebrated winning Premier 3 with a 134 shot victory over Beaufort Sports & Social in what was the final game of the season. That year (2009) which was also the last time Broomfield found themselves in Premier 3 saw seven of the eleven home fixtures result in wins of 100 shots or more along with 54, 60, 89 and 93 shots.
14/04/12 - Jake Dancer is now confirmed as a playing member of Broomfield B.C. Currently his availability is for the West Bromwich team only.
13/04/12 - Two wins from two for the Smethwick 'A' with a tight home win over Langley 'A' tonight. The game was brought forward because of the Midland Team Challenge this Sunday. Just five shots up after four ends with wins for Jonathan Blakeman 21-9 and Chris Price who recovered from 4-11 to win 21-13. Nerves were settled in the back four thanks to a 21-8 card from Dan Chilton who was 4-7 and ran out from eight acoss. Ollie Newman was the only other winner (21-12) as Broomfield crept home by 18 shots. Winners were shared but with five points from the opening two fixtures the Smethwick 'A' are top of Division 1.
13/04/12 - Three winners for the Dudley team last night at a very cold Rowley Labour. Missing out by 38 shots with one winner in the first three (Paul Jackson 21-13), Carl Blakeman 21-6 in the middle three and finally John Hardman 21-8 last end on.
12/04/12 - The Oldbury season kicked off with a convincing 89 shot win at home against Netherton Cons 'A'. 9 points on the board with wins for John Wilson 21-3, Jonathan Blakeman 21-3, Chris Price 21-5, Dan Chilton 21-6, Chris Chilton 21-10, Ollie Newman 21-12 and Dave Chilton 21-16.

09/04/12 - A great start for the Smethwick 'A' yesterday morning with an away win on Langley. Two winners and a 2 shot lead in the first four, winning cards for Dan Chilton 21-12 and skipper Ollie Newman 21-20. Three winners in the back four added another 17 shots to the aggregate: Dave Chilton 21-9, Mick Barnwell 21-17 and Chris Chilton 21-18. The 19 shot victory on Langley could be vital in Broomfield's attempt to clinch an 17th Division 1 title. History would suggest so anyway:
Broomfield vs Langley @ Langley in the Smethwick League (2006-2012)
The Smethwick 'B' put last weeks cup result behind them dropping only two shots at home in a 60 shot win against the Wernley 'A'. Single figure wins for Joe Wilson 21-1, Terry Jones 21-8 and Matt Barnwell 21-9.
07/04/12 -The next round of the Dudley Herald Cup will take place on Friday 20th April (6:45pm start). The draw is as follows:
06/04/12 - Dudley Herald Cup tonight and Broomfield are through to the last 16 after beating Langley. 05/04/12 - The Dudley season kicked off with a home fixture for Broomfield who now have one team in Division 5. On a cold night Broomies went 15 shots up after four ends with wins for Danielle Newman 21-13, Dave Childs 21-16 and Paul Jackson 21-15 playing his first Dudley game for Broomfield since 2001. In the back four another 20 shots added with winning cards by Carl Blakeman 21-8, Denise Killion 21-10 and Melissa Gurdas 21-15. Final result +35 (8pts).
04/04/12 -The West Bromwich season started one week early for Broomfield who travelled to Wolverhampton to play The Stile 'A' tonight. Three points were gained for Broomfield on a wet evening with wins for captain Terry Jones 21-5, Matt Barnwell 21-9 and Joe Wilson 21-15. Final result Broomfield 110, The Stile 'A' 134 (3pts / 7pts).
01/04/12 - In the preliminary round of the S.F.Jones Cup this morning the Smethwick 'B' team played the Royal Oak on an immaculate Moor Lane green. One winner in the first four (Joe Wilson 21-8) but Broomfield were only 4 shots adrift. Two further winners in the back four (Paul Jackson 21-13, Terry Jones 21-19) was not enough as Jim Watkin's team ducked out by 13 shots.
The Smethwick 'A' team had a bye and will play WBFS on the Beeches in Round 1.
01/04/12 -Thanks to all of you who supported the race night and presenation last night. The evening was a great success raising much needed funds for the forthcoming season. A big thank you needs to go to Alan Parsons for all the work he put into organising the event, assisted by Wayne and also Denise Killion.
01/04/12 -The 2012 season kicked off yesterday with a 19-a-side friendly against The Pheasant at Portland Road. Unfortunately the weather wasn't as good as the previous week but nevertheless spirits seemed positive and the new additions to our surrounds got plenty of use (see picture below). The game was won by 66 shots, Broomfield having 12 winners and The Pheasant 7. Scores as follows:
