FEBRUARY 2015 NEWS
Items listed below are news items that have appeared on the Home Page but may now be out of date...
27/02/15 - Dudley League Division 5 fixtures are now online - click here to view. The season starts on Thursday 9th April with a trip to Greets Green.
27/02/15 - The 2015 Warwick & Worcester fixtures have now been released and are available at www.wwcba.com as well as our own website - click here for W&W Premier and here for W&W Business Houses. As originally reported our W&W Premier team kicks off the season with a trip to the British Oak. A change in the Business Houses league means we compete in a league of 10 teams (18 games). The W&W Business Houses season will start on Saturday 25th April at home to Hollyfields and end on Saturday 5th September away to Hockley Heath.
22/02/15 - The website was down between 6th and 14th February. Many thanks to Paul Hickman for his help which ensures broomfieldbc.com will continue into its 10th year. A number of news updates have been uploaded (see below) which are back dated from 3rd February onwards.
21/02/15 - Next Sunday signals the start of March and a need to start completing the pre-season work before practice and early season competitions take up players time. Thank you to those that have helped over the past few weeks - Darren Griffiths, Joe Wilson, Dave Southall, John Hardman and Pauline Broadhead. Help will be needed to paint the striker boards and benches when the weather improves. Jonathan Blakeman is looking into the replacement of the astroturf ditches and a couple of committee members have been asked to look into hiring a rotavator to tidy up the borders that surround our green. Work on the paths is all but complete and the yearly cutback of the trees was completed towards the end of last year. As always your help is really appreciated and even an hour of your time makes a massive difference.
19/02/15 - An application has been made by the Dudley & District Ladies County to host a county match against Cumbria at Broomfield on Sunday 26th April. A decision will be made at the next committee meeting on Tuesday 17th March.
19/02/15 - A meeting will take place tonight between Broomfield B.C. and Mitchells & Butlers B.C. to discuss joint matters for the 2015 season. The concept was put forward by Broomfield a number of weeks ago whereby a small sub-committee was formed to attend the meetings. Chaired By Mark Hadley (for Broomfield) three members will meet three members of M&B as and when required. In addition to Mark Hadley the sub-committee consists of Darren Griffiths, Jonathan Blakeman and Denise Killion.
17/02/15 - As temperatures make a gradual rise pre-season work on the green also slowly gathers pace. Last Sunday both greens at Portland Road were solidtined - aeration being one of the most important operations at this time of year. An application of micronised lawn sand was made today as a means of controlling the small amount of moss present whilst also providing a small amount of nutrient to stimulate some early season growth. The weather dictates all of the planned work over the coming weeks but it is hoped that the green will open in the middle of March.
16/02/15 - The Warwick & Worcester season starts on Saturday 11th April. Divisional make up for the Divisions involving Broomfield are detailed below. Although not yet confirmed the season will start for the Premier team away at the British Oak whilst the new Business Houses team will open the season at home to Pavilions (Pavilions Sporting Club, Meriden Drive, Kingshurst, B37 6BX). The Business Houses team will start and finish the season on the same dates as the Premier side but with only 11 teams in the division there will be a two week bye during the season.
16/02/15 - The Smethwick AGM took place earlier this evening at Hamstead Social Club. Secretary Colin Grove announced he will be stepping down after the next presentation (30/01/2016) having been involved with the league for 36 years. Fixtures are still not finalised. The season starts on Sunday 5th April with the preliminary round of the Cup - both Broomfield teams do not play until the first round. League games commence on Sunday 12th April.
In the first round of the S.F.Jones Cup (Sunday 31st May) Broomfield 'A' will take on Cradley Sports at the Bell Inn. On the same date in the Consolation Cup Broomfield 'B' face Royal Oak 'B' on the Green Man. Both venues being three ended greens in Harborne. The 2015 season will end with the final of the S.F.Jones Cup on Sunday 4th October.

They will then pass monies on to the Treasurer Dave Jenkins at the next committee meeting. A similar arrangement has been made for the Bonus Ball. To help Katy Lang, before the season starts anyone that owes money can pay money to any member of the committee.
