FEBRUARY 2013 NEWS
Items listed below are news items that have appeared on the Home Page but may now be out of date...
17/02/13 - Reminder: Committee Meeting @ Portland Pavilion tomorrow @ 7:15pm.
17/02/13 -The All England Sub-Committee today held a positive meeting with representatives from the Warwick & Worcester. The BCGBA will be visiting us for a meeting in the near future.
17/02/13 -148 horses now sold for the Race Night on Saturday 6th April. 44 remaining so please see Darren Griffiths or Joe Wilson. Please note the format this year will be three owners per horse per race so we do not intend to sell extra horses during the night (unless AP is prepared to fly back from Oz and take care of the administration). Thanks to all those that have supported the event and collected money in.
16/02/13 - Bonus Ball number 23 will be available from Saturday 6th April 2013. Please contact Sheila Newman if you are interested in taking this on. We encourage all members to have a number on what is our principle fundraiser (hint hint new members Jake Dancer, Steve Smart, Mick Haydon, Kevin March!)
15/02/13 - Warwick & Worcester fixtures released today: www.wwcba.com . Smethwick and West Bromwich fixtures are still awaited. I will publish a full programme on the fixtures page when all leagues have released their fixtures.
14/02/13 - Broomfield Bowling Club are sad to announce that Mark Wharton passed away this morning. Mark played for the club for just one season in 2008 but became a popular member alongside his Oldbury 'B' team mates. His final game for the club was in the Oldbury Division 3/4 Cup Final (pictured below) where Broomfield 'B' beat Smethwick Ex's in a memorable match played on the George. Mark had suffered from crohn's disease for a number of years. Our thoughts are with Mark's wife and children at this difficult time.
10/02/13 - Fixtures for the Smethwick & District Sunday Morning Bowling League are available on the league website. These will not be published on our website until the Cradley Sports / Boldmere Sports confusion has been resolved. Current fixtures show Cradley Sports relegated to Division 2 but the missing result from the end of season final tables would have seen Boldmere Sports relegated and Cradley Sports avoiding the drop. The league A.G.M. takes places tomorrow night at Hamstead Social, therefore i hope to publish fixtures for both our 'A' and 'B' teams during the coming week.
West Bromwich fixtures are still being finalised after Greets Green applied to put a 'B' team in the league. This should revert the format back to two divisions of eleven teams as agreed at the league A.G.M.
09/02/13 - The Oldbury and Dudley league fixtures have been released (see quick-view version below). The West Bromwich fixtures have been amended after Langley withdrew from the league. I am hoping to receive the revised fixtures from Frank tomorrow and publish them online tomorrow night.
04/02/13 - We are pleased to announce another new addition for 2013 in Mick Haydon who has joined us from Somers B.C. Mick will be playing on Saturday's and Thursday's.
03/02/13 - 120 horses sold to date for the Race Night and ownership forms have now been emailed to members. It was decided today to increase the format to three owners per horse per race (192 horses in total). Get your forms to Darren Griffiths or Joe Wilson as soon as possible, only 72 horses remaining. Thank you to Ollie Newman who has sold over 50 horses and to the 8 sponsors confirmed to date: Darren Griffiths, Ollie Newman, Frank Newman, Mick Barnwell / M Barnwell Services Ltd, Michelle Kelly / Portland Pavilion, Chris Price, Stock Services (via C.Price), Schoeller Bleckmann (via C.Price).
03/02/13 - (Apologies for the previous error) Warwick & Worcester league programme starts on Saturday 13th April. Fixtures are due to be released mid February. The Premier matrix is likely to be six divisions of twelve teams.
02/02/13 - A few changes in the Dudley (Thursday) League which starts on Thursday 4th April. Three teams have recently withdrawn from the league (Churchfield Tavern, Rowley Labour 'A' and DMBEC 'B') and Division 5 will now consist of 11 teams: Rowley Labour, Broomfield, Bell Inn, Hilly House 'B', Wernley 'A', Cradley Sports, Baggeridge 'A', Pensnett Social 'A', Glasscutters 'B', Coseley Tavern 'B' and Somers 'B'.
