25/01/16 - News from the AGM held Sunday 24th January 2016 at Edgbaston Foundation Sports Ground

Attendance at the AGM was improved with the turnout at its best since 2011. Andy Calvert tendered a written apology and confirmed he would be taking a season off in 2016. New members were listed as John Capewell and Leigh-anne Nemedi (both returning) plus the extended commitment of James Dugmore who is now available for the Summit (Monday), Warwick & Worcester (Saturday) and Smethwick (Sunday) teams. Two novice players have joined the club through Paul Hentrich. The increase in midweek players led to the introduction of a further midweek side. Broomfield will now field an Oldbury 'B' team for the first time since 2008 captained by Paul Hentrich with Frank Newman as vice captain.

There were further changes to team captains with Ollie Newman taking on the Smethwick 'A' side again having previously held the role in 2011 and 2012. Mick Haydon replaced John Hardman as Dudley captain with John stepping up to the Oldbury 'A' captaincy. Darren Griffiths continues as Club Captain for a 5th term which sees him third behind Paul Newman (7) and Joe Russell (6). Joe Wilson, Denise Killion and Jim Watkin remain captains of the Summit, W&W Business Houses and Smethwick 'B' teams respectively.

Chris Price remains Chairman for an 11th term, Mark Hadley returns as Secretary for the 15th time and Dave Jenkins continues as Treasurer having taken on the role in 2014.

Two rule changes were passed, the first being the re-introduction of Associate Membership. For £15 per year you can now join the club as an associate member with benefits extending to use of the green, entering club competitions and being able to attend and vote on matters at an AGM. It was cited that this is an ideal option for non-bowlers who wish to take an active part in the running of the club.

The second proposal was that of a new constitution document based on a template provided by Clubmark. This was accepted by the membership and sees the club operate under an updated set of rules / guidelines. Benefits were that future applications for funding / grants would require amongst many other criteria, for the club to have an adequate constitution in place. Furthermore it is a sign that the club are trying to move forward, with Warwickshire CCC expecting a five-year development plan to be in place this season.

Adopting the constitution document meant that the format of the clubs committee was simplified. From 2016 the committee will consist of the Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, Club Captain and five commiittee members elected at the AGM. In addition to the four ex-officio positions, the following members were elected to the committee: Jonathan Blakeman, Joe Wilson, Denise Killion, Paul Hentrich and Paul Jackson.

Various items were discussed in "AOB" with those present voting in favour of not entering the W&W Arthur Mitchell Cup or the Free Press Cup in 2016. This ends an association with the Free Press Cup of at least 35 years. Broomfield won the competition in 1995 and 2000 and were runners up in 1989, 1997 and 1999.

18/01/16 - Nominations for the 2016 season are now closed until the Annual General Meeting. Members should have received the following documents by email: Agenda, Minutes of the last AGM, Rule Proposal: Associate Membership, Rule Proposal: Clubmark Constitution, Nominations for the 2016 season. If you have not received these or require paper copies then please contact the secretary.

A final reminder for the presentation which takes place on Saturday 27th February. The deadline for food orders and ticket money is Sunday 24th February (the same date as the AGM).

17/01/16 - The Dudley & District (Thursday) League will start on 7th April. Broomfield have one team in Division 5 which consists of Romsley 'B', Baggeridge, Wernley 'B', Cradley Sports, Tallboats 'B', Dudley Dell 'C', Old Cross 'B', Coseley Tavern 'B', Langley 'B' and Pensnett Social 'A'. The league AGM takes place on Wednesday 3rd February at Rowley Labour Club starting at 8:00pm.

13/01/16 - Summit League fixtures for the 2016 season have been released and Broomfield will start their campaign in Feeder Division 'B' away to Penn:

09/01/16 - The Warwick & Worcester C.B.A. are now circulating correspondance in relation to the AGM which takes place on Wednesday 27th January at Lea Hall Allotments Club. This has included a statement from the Competitions Sub Committee informing clubs of changes to the cup competitions in 2016. Extracts from this statement are detailed below:

  • The knockout cup competitions will be played in 3 sections.
  • Section 1 for Premier teams (Division 1-3)
  • Section 2 for Premier teams (Division 4 and downwards)
  • Section 3 for Alliance teams and Business Houses teams. This only being open to those clubs that participate in the Premier competitions and to Business Houses clubs.
  • The Business Houses Cup competition will not take place in 2016.
  • Premier and Alliance / Business Houses teams shall be represented by 8 players.
  • No player shall be allowed to take part in both Premier and Alliance / Business Houses matches scheduled for the same day. The same ruling to apply to any re-arranged matches.
  • A Premier Cup-tied player shall be ineligible to bowl in the Alliance / Business Houses Cup.
  • An Alliance / Business Houses Cup-tied player shall be eligible to bowl for the Premier Cup.

07/01/16 - On Tuesday 5th January 2016 Lisa Griffiths took on the running of the clubs Bonus Ball fundraiser. Owners should now have received contact details for Lisa. Weekly payment can also be passed to Darren Griffiths - Lisa will then text the owner confirmation of how much money has been received and to what date they have paid up until. If your contact details change then please advise Lisa.

From Saturday 9th January the payout will increase from £58.00 to £70.00. This has been made possible by numbers 50-59 being taken on. Please click here for an updated list of Bonus Ball owners.

05/01/16 - The Summit Garage Premier League AGM takes place on Monday 11th January with the 2016 season fixtures released the following day on www.staffspbl.com. The season starts on Monday 11th April and finishes on Monday 22nd August. Having gained promotion from Division 2 in 2015, Broomfield will compete against the following teams in Feeder Division 'B' in 2016:

01/01/16 - A reminder that the Annual General Meeting will take place on Sunday 24th January 2016 at Edgbaston Foundation Sports Ground, Portland Road. 10:45am for a prompt 11:00am start. Nominations are open for the 2016 season. Nominations will close on Sunday 17th January 2016 and any vacant positions will be addressed at the AGM.
